It’s Been Too Long4

It feels like it has been too long since Bailey has been gone already yet my heart still aches so much for him.  We have tried adjusting, but old habits die hard.  I still expect to see him on his pillow and my heart skips a beat when I think I left him alone in the bed and he might try to jump out on his own.

We have tried to change up Prancer’s routine to make things different for her so she doesn’t feel alone.  She is taking more car rides with us and we are taking walks at least three times a week.  She has been soaking up all her loving.  She still goes to the vet once a week for fluids and seems to be doing fine, I think.  She doesn’t seem to be craving water like she used to so I am hoping this is a good sign.  We are hopeful.

Shortly after Bailey went to higher place, we found Prancer sleeping with our Bailey stuffed animal.  My sister-in-law and I made “Bailey” for my daughter’s birthday after Bailey’s amputation .  It quickly became one of her favorites and needless to say she began sleeping with it the night Bailey left us.  A few days later we found Prancer with “Bailey”.  Here are some pics of her with “Bailey” the stuffed animal and running around with my daughter in my in-laws yard.

A few days later my daughter and Prancer fell asleep together.  I think everyone has been looking for comfort in each other.  Bailey was our hug-a-bug.  We all cuddled with him, slept on him and he cuddled us back.

I have had some really great friends show their support for us…we have received flowers, a beautiful bougainvillea plant, a necklace with an angel wing, a donation made in Bailey’s name to a local no kill shelter and a beautiful tripawd necklace (one for me and one for my daughter).  I appreciate them all realizing he was part of the family and we are grieving him as such.

    What beautiful gestures from friends! They are like family and grieving is something we have to do. Praying for you and your family still as you remember the good times with Bailey and find peace in his memory

    I still can’t comprehend 19 years old…..wow….and these pictures are so adorable of Prancer and your daughter.

    After reading your post here, I realize how much all of us grieve our pets, and the similarities of dealing with the extremely painful loss of them. For me, just knowing we all share this same journey with the hopes, fears, triumphs, and terrible loss, it makes my heart comforted knowing we are not alone here, no matter what we are going through at the moment.

    Keeping you in my thoughts, and hope for all of us dealing with heartbreaking loss, that happy memories start replacing the pain within our hearts soon.

    Our pups leave such a huge paw print on our hearts that never goes away. Its been almost two months since I lost my Jake and I still cry. Like Bonnie said, they say happy memories start replacing the pain but I’m not quite sure when that happens. Your Prancer cuddling up with Bailey’s toy is just beautiful, the love in a dogs heart is endless. The one where she is cuddled up with your daughter is priceless. It just goes to show the strength we can all find in each other.

    Ohhhh these photos are so sweet! I can only imagine how much Prancer misses Bailey. I’m sure his beautiful scent is everywhere and especially on the adorable stuffie. She sounds like she’s doing well, no doubt because of your compassionate touch and concern.

    What love you are surrounded by. I’m honored that the necklaces were for you two!

    Getting used to our beloved animals being gone is so hard no matter what, but I imagine that it’s even more difficult when you’ve shared so many years together. {{{{{hugs}}}}}
